A couple of years ago I read a book titled "Jesus for the Non-Religious" by Bishop John Shelby Spong. Spong is an interesting person with unique views on the new and old testaments, and specifically Jesus Christ. You can learn more about him by clicking here.
I continue to follow him through an email subscription service he offers. Every week he takes a question and offers his spiritual insight. This weeks question and my experience with a fear prayer that I said today

If I want to know what's on my mind, or how settled my mind is, I pay attention to what I'm thinking in the first few minutes after waking up. More often than not my mind is racing , thinking about my job, this site, my resentments, my family (aren't family and resentments the same thing? :-) )
As I make a coffee, I observe my thoughts and more often than not, they are not based in God. They are based in my own selfish desires. I read recently that desire is the source of all fear.

I spent time reading the forward to "Philosophy of Courage" in this mornings quiet time. It's written by Glenn F. Chestnut an authority on early AA and The Oxford Group. I've attached it as a word document if anyone cares to read it in its entirety.
